# Adding a Layer Group

Layer groups allow you to organize project layers in a clearer and more structured way, according to various criteria such as theme (sewer network, transportation, regulations, etc.), period (current year, historical, etc.), or any other organizational need.

**To add a layer group to the project:**

1. Click <img src="/files/0INnG3lm0OdLAD9VpXaX" alt="" data-size="line"> **Add group**. A new group named *Layer Group* appears in the **Layers** section.
2. Double-click the group name to edit it. Click each language tab to enter the name in the supported languages.
3. Select a layer to add to the group.
4. Click the layer's drag icon <img src="/files/GR4EyGIl9vTZcyttE4kW" alt="" data-size="line">, then drag and drop it into the desired group. When you pause over a group, it opens automatically.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.jmapcloud.io/en/jmap-cloud-portal/user-guide-for-jmap-cloud-portal/configuring-project-data/organizing-project-layers/adding-a-layer-group.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
