# Controlling the Display of a Layer or Layer Group

Two tools are available to manage the display of layers and layer groups:

* The first allows you to **enable or disable the display** of the layer or group on the map, for the current Studio work session.
* The second allows you to **enable or disable the initial visibility** of the layer in the project. This determines whether the layer will be visible on the map when users open the project.

**To access these functions:**

1. Hover over the layer or group to display the action icons.
2. Click <img src="/files/5kIPpqvynMxNlo7lddKn" alt="" data-size="line">or <img src="/files/xFpnlRoaUC3CmlQV0Rqr" alt="" data-size="line"> to enable or disable the display of the layer or group for your work session.
3. Click the visibility icon <img src="/files/aRrSit80Gli1A997E1WL" alt="" data-size="line"> or <img src="/files/EKkIzPX70NxTfamJzYVa" alt="" data-size="line"> to enable or disable the application of visibility settings and to modify the initial visibility setting of the layer in the project.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.jmapcloud.io/en/jmap-cloud-portal/user-guide-for-jmap-cloud-portal/configuring-project-data/organizing-project-layers/controlling-the-display-of-a-layer-or-layer-group.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
