# Creating and Managing Custom Maps

You can create custom maps in JMap NG to save and share with other users or in other applications.

A custom map reproduces a specific mapping environment, including layers, styles, scale, measurements, annotations, and feature selections.

All operations on custom maps are performed from the **My Maps** panel. To open it, click <img src="/files/OtutKZVitadtb4kVchWz" alt="" data-size="line">.

## The My Maps Panel

The panel contains the following elements:

Select the option from the dropdown menu, then indicate the sort order (ascending or descending) using the arrow.</p></td></tr><tr><td align="center" valign="top">4</td><td valign="top"><p><strong>Map cards</strong></p><p>Each custom map is presented in a card displaying its title, description, and the following tools: </p><p><img src="/files/QTpZkuj9325zHk0C7l0y" alt="" data-size="line"> <strong>Update map</strong>: updates the custom map to reflect the most recent version of the data.</p><p> <img src="/files/Z4As1hOa38VwiKkRXgXL" alt="" data-size="line"> <strong>Share map:</strong> provides access to sharing options (see the <a href="#sharing-a-custom-map">Sharing a Custom Map</a> section). </p><p><img src="/files/zQUApl5x0uRvpGsbmAjA" alt="" data-size="line"><strong>Delete map:</strong> deletes the custom map. </p><p><br>You can also edit the title and description of a map directly from its card: <br>1. Click the title or description to place the cursor.<br>2. Make the desired changes.<br>3. Click <img src="/files/gJtCluFRiVYPVH2V85dx" alt="" data-size="line"> to save the changes or <img src="/files/CdUpw9nnCcYKp9qojYEA" alt="" data-size="line"> to undo them.</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

To display a map, click its card in the **My Maps** panel.

## Creating a Custom Map

1. Click <img src="/files/OtutKZVitadtb4kVchWz" alt="" data-size="line"> to open the **My Maps** panel.
2. Click **Add** to open the creation interface.
3. Enter a title in the **Title** field. This field is required to save the map.
4. Optionally add a description in the **Description** field.
5. Click **Save**. The new map card is displayed in the My Maps panel.

## Sharing a Custom Map

1. Click <img src="/files/OtutKZVitadtb4kVchWz" alt="" data-size="line"> to open the **My Maps** panel.
2. In the desired map card, click <img src="/files/Z4As1hOa38VwiKkRXgXL" alt="" data-size="line"> to open the sharing options. Two choices are available:
   * **Share the map**: Generates a URL for the custom map. The icon <img src="/files/5MBb3T7Dq1A0Lzkws9lv" alt="" data-size="line"> indicates that sharing is enabled.
   * **Share the map, then copy its link to the clipboard**: Generates the URL and automatically copies it to the clipboard. A confirmation message is displayed. The icon <img src="/files/5MBb3T7Dq1A0Lzkws9lv" alt="" data-size="line"> indicates that sharing is enabled.

You can send this link to other people who can, depending on their access rights, open a JMap NG application displaying your custom map (with its measurements, annotations, selected features, etc.).

### Disable Sharing

To disable sharing:

1. Click <img src="/files/5MBb3T7Dq1A0Lzkws9lv" alt="" data-size="line"> to display the sharing options: **Stop sharing the map, its link will no longer be active** and **Copy the sharing link to the clipboard**.
2. Click **Stop sharing the map, its link will no longer be active**. The icon <img src="/files/Z4As1hOa38VwiKkRXgXL" alt="" data-size="line"> indicates that sharing is disabled.

Once sharing is disabled, people with the link can still access the standard project interface in JMap NG, but receive an error message indicating that custom map sharing is disabled.
